There will be more than wins and losses on the line at next month’s amateur boxing card – glory will also be up for grabs.

The 12-bout Quest for Glory card was announced last week, and the event is just a week and a half away, June 4 at the Malaspina Theatre at Vancouver Island University.

The main event, previously announced, will see Nanaimo’s Ross Walker take on Gibsons’ George Vourtsis for the World Boxing Council’s B.C. middleweight championship.

Also confirmed is a semi-main event pitting Nanaimo’s Josh Shepherd against Sechelt’s Marcus Davis.

“We are thrilled to see Josh Shepherd back in the ring,” said Don Arnott, event promoter, in a press release. “The former toughman champ has been working as a full-time firefighter and first responder and looking forward to lacing up the gloves again.”

Arnott said Shepherd is looking to hone his game with an eye to competing in the World Police and Fire Games.

The card also features Eli Wyse of Nanaimo, who will take on Phil Ryan of Vancouver.

There will be three women’s bouts, two of them involving locals. Nanaimo’s Jessica Simms will face Vancouver’s Anna Marie and Nanaimo’s Taylor Nicks will take on White Rock’s Emily Walker.

Other Nanaimo boxers on the card include Quinn Day, facing Victoria’ Danilo Miljevic; Jeff Low, against Victoria’s Max Cullen; Faris Al Bukhari, versus Victoria’s Aaron Jones; and Dylan Murphy, up against Nicholas Tilkin of Parksville.

Arnott reported that tickets are going fast; all tickets cost $50. Doors are at 4:30 p.m. with the first bout at 5 p.m. For more information, please call 250-751-3657.
