Nanaimo athletes top track podium

Several Nanaimo athletes came out winners in the B.C. High School Track and Field Championships in Langley last weekend.

Jason Clare, from Nanaimo District, is this year’s senior men’s pole vault champion, with a vault of 4.65m, which also qualifies him for the IAAF Youth World Championships in July in Colombia.

Alyssa Mousseau, from Wellington, is the senior women’s 800m champion, and is also on the short list to compete at youth worlds. She picked up a silver medal with Wellington’s senior women’s 4 x 400 relay team with Hassy Fashina-Bombata, Jenaya Pynn and Amy Morris.

Fashina-Bombata is a double-gold medalist in the junior women’s 100m dash and 200m dash. Pynn picked up a bronze medal in the senior women’s 1500m race.

Dover Bay’s Carter Higgins took silver in the senior men’s 400m hurdles.

Nananimo District’s Marina Andersen won silver in the junior women’s 1500m race walk.

Maya Asselin-Debelic, from NDSS, took the silver in senior women’s pole vault. Sean Miller, from John Barsby, won bronze in the senior men’s 1500m run.
