The Quarterway Leafs had a chance to cap off a great season with an Island championship, but ran into a hot team.

The Nanaimo Rec League men’s hockey team fell 5-2 to the Mill Bay Titans in the championship game of the Island Rec Hockey Challenge on April 3 at Mill Bay’s Kerry Park Arena.

“It was a classic, just a really good game,” said Al Johnson, tournament organizer. “The Titans kept going and going. They played like they were possessed.’’

Dan Lemon was named the Leafs’ player of the game in the final. Braeden Lattanzi was player of the game for the Leafs in the semifinals, a 4-3 victory over the Colwood Lamplighters.

The Leafs recently finished the Nanaimo Rec League hockey season with 26 wins out of their 30 games played, while the Titans were champions of their arena’s rec league season.
