Kettlebell marathon raises money for MS

Ballistic Strength Nanaimo athletes will participate in the One-Hour Long Cycle, a fundraiser for the MS Society.

Some Nanaimo athletes can handle the kettlebell well enough that they’re going to try to do it for an hour straight.

Solomon Macys of Ballistic Strength Nanaimo and his team will participate in the One-Hour Long Cycle, a fundraiser for the MS Society, this Saturday (Oct. 22). The international event will see people around the world all lifting at the same time.

Some athletes will try to repeat clean-and-jerks with the kettlebell for the full hour, while others might partner or team up in relays.

“When I run classes, we train people to handle five to 10 minutes of constant movement without setting the bell down anyway, so for a lot of them, it’s not a huge stretch to go the extra distance with a lighter bell,” Macys said.

The event will take place from 11 a.m.-noon at Ballistic Strength Nanaimo’s gym on Giggleswick Place. For more information about the fundraiser, please click here. To make a donation, please click here.
