The junior A Nanaimo Timbermen have high hopes this season, and got things started the right way – with a hard-fought win.
The city’s B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League club, defending Island champs, started the 2022 campaign on Sunday, May 15, with a 6-4 win against the New Westminster Salmonbellies on the Lower Mainland.
Zander Torres scored a hat trick – including the game-winning goal – and added two assists to lead the attack. Riley Arsenault tallied twice, Bren Jamieson also scored and Arthur Miller had a pair of assists. Justin Geddie was the winning goalie as shots were 51-42 for Nanaimo.
Chris Bowman, club president, said heading into the weekend that camp went well and the team has been wowed by the level of training and learning that’s been happening under new coach Glenn Clark.
“He’s such a great leader and communicator … The way he’s prepared and organized is like nothing we’ve seen before,” Bowman said. “It’s exciting. It’ll help every one of these kids become a way better lacrosse player. I think it will help the whole organization grow.”
GAME ON … The junior A Timbermen play their home opener this coming Saturday, May 21, as they host the Delta Islanders at 2 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
