Junior Timbermen play home opener, kind of

The Nanaimo Timbermen junior A lacrosse club plays its first home game of the season Saturday (May 4) in Parksville.

The Nanaimo Timbermen junior A lacrosse club needs to beat some of the top teams to achieve its goals this season, and it might as well start now.

The city’s B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League squad plays its first home game of the season Saturday (May 4) in Parksville against the Delta Islanders.

The Islanders were runners-up in the B.C. final in 2012.

The Timbermen will play the rest of their home schedule in Nanaimo, but this one in Parksville could be a chance to expand their brand.

“That’s what we want to do, we try to bring good-calibre ball,” said Brad Dougan, coach of the junior T-men. “When we had the opportunity that we could play there I was all for it. I want to bring our club in there and show the [Parksville-]Qualicum Beach area good lacrosse and hopefully we can come out with a win.”

GAME ON … Game time Saturday is 5 p.m. at Oceanside Place. The T-men visit New Westminster the next day … To read about the Nanaimo Timbermen junior A team's season opener last weekend, click here.
