Junior Timbermen back on winning track

The Nanaimo Timbermen are working through their struggles.

The city’s B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League team defeated the Delta Islanders 9-7 on Saturday in Ladner. The victory came against a tough Islanders team that had scored a lopsided win over the T-men earlier this season.

Paul Brebber led Nanaimo’s offence with a hat trick on Saturday and Kyle Hofer added two goals. Ryan Sage, Cory Koesdibyo, Cody Bremner and Ethan Garland were the other goal scorers and Devon Winter was the winning goalie.

Shots in the game were 51-51.

A day earlier marked Bremner’s return to the Timbermen lineup for the first time since he was traded away to the New Westminster Salmonbellies at last season’s trade deadline. The sniper responded with three goals and two assists in a 13-6 loss to the Langley Thunder at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Garland, Sage and Joey Fendick also tallied in the loss and Winter suffered the loss in goal. Shots were 42-35 in favour of Nanaimo.

The next game for the junior A Timbermen is a big one, as the Victoria Shamrocks come to the NIC on Thursday (June 2). The Shamrocks eliminated the Timbermen from the playoffs last year and beat the T-men by a lopsided margin earlier this season.

GAME ON … The T-men and Shamrocks face off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Nanaimo is also home at the NIC on Sunday (June 5) in a 5 p.m. game against the Port Coquitlam Saints.
