The Nanaimo Timbermen junior A lacrosse team is not only playoff-bound, but semifinals-bound.

The team concluded its regular season in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League this past weekend, whacking the Port Coquitlam Saints by a 17-5 final score.

The win pushed Nanaimo’s record to 10-4, just two points behind the first-place Victoria Shamrocks. Both Island teams will now get a first-round playoff bye as the teams that finished second through sixth do battle in the quarterfinals.

In the season finale Sunday, July 3, on the road, Ryan Sheridan had two goals and five assists for the Timbermen, Jacob Dunbar scored five goals and Connor Barrett scored a hat trick. Colby Bowman and Justin Geddie each played half the game in goal.

Also of note in the final week of the regular season, the junior A T-men defeated the Shamrocks 12-8 on June 28 at Frank Crane Arena.

Nanaimo Timbermen player Jacob Dunbar finished fourth in the BCJALL in goals this season with 31. Goalie Justin Geddie was second in wins (nine) and save percentage (.842) and was third in goals-against average (7.88).

The New Westminster Salmonbellies and Langley Thunder are playing in one quarterfinal while the Coquitlam Adanacs and Burnaby Lakers are playing in the other quarterfinal. Those series are best-of-three contests, while the semis will be best-of-five and the BCJALL final will be a best-of-seven.
