Jimmy Lapointe won gold for Island Top Team at an international event in Seattle last month.

Nanaimo’s Island Top Team made some club history as one of its athletes took gold at an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation event.

Jimmy Lapointe, a purple belt middleweight, earned gold in his division at the Seattle championship last month.

“A fantastic result…” said Robert Biernacki, Island Top Team instructor, in a press release. “[Lapointe] displayed everything we’ve been working on in training for the last couple of months in a couple of dominant submission victories.”

Phil Oweis earned bronze in the white belt super heavyweight division in his competitive debut.
