High school basketball stars will hoop it up one more time

A contingent of Nanaimo basketball players was invited to play in the Vancouver Island Seniors Classic all-star games next month.

Eleven graduating seniors will have one more chance to tip off on the high school hardcourt.

A contingent of Nanaimo basketball players was invited to play in the Vancouver Island Seniors Classic all-star games next month in Victoria.

Making the roster for the north Island girls’ all-star team this year are Stefanie Talboys of the Cedar Spartans, Emily Shires of the Dover Bay Dolphins, Carlie Malinski from the John Barsby Blazers and Ally Keir, Kaitlyn Franklin and Victoria Brown from the Wellington Wildcats.

Invited to play for the north Island’s A boys’ team are Dylan Dorsey and Tyler Radelja of Wellington and Wes Richardson from Dover Bay.

Those named to the north Island’s B boys’ team include Taylor Davies of Dover and Malcolm Rush from Wellington.

Vancouver Island University men’s basketball coaches Matt Kuzminski and Avneet Brar will coach the north Island teams at the seniors classic.

The all-star games will be held April 5 at Spectrum Secondary School. The boys’ B game goes at 4:30 p.m., followed by the girls’ game at 6:15 p.m. and the boys’ A game at 8 p.m.

The Vancouver Island Seniors Classic all-star games have been held annually for 27 years.
