Nanaimo Clippers major award winners this year are Sam Labrecque

The Nanaimo Clippers’ top scorer in 2010-11 is also their Most Valuable Player.

Andrew Gladiuk was given a trophy as the team’s MVP on Sunday at the junior A hockey club’s annual luncheon, at the Grand Hotel this year. Gladiuk also received trophies as the team’s Top Scorer and Scholastic Player of the Year. He was one of only three players to suit up in all 60 games this year and led Nanaimo in goals (25), assists (40) and points.

“It’s a real honour to get recognized by my teammates,” Gladiuk said. “I couldn’t do it alone and they’ve been great all year supporting. And the guys I’ve been playing with have been great to play with.”

Now that the alternate captain has collected a mantel-ful of hardware, he’ll focus on bigger and better trophies.

“I’m hoping to step up my game and really lead the guys in playoffs and win some series here,” Gladiuk said.

Other major award winners Sunday were Sam Labrecque, named Rookie of the Year, and Brett Hartskamp, who won the Lisa Macpherson Award for heart, courage and dedication. Graeme McCormack was selected Top Defenceman and Kyle Kramer got the Jason Gow Memorial Award as most exciting player and the Best Two-Way Player trophy.

Team captain Colton Cyr was chosen Most Inspirational Player and also won a plaque as the team’s leader in short-handed goals. Victor Newell was chosen the Unsung Hero and Charles-Alexy Premont is the Most Improved Player. Zach Martin was the recipient of the Coaches’ Award and Gerry, Myles and Leo Fitzgerald share this year’s Most Popular Player trophy.
