Roger McKinnon knew right after last year’s Blair McKinnon Celebrity Football Game that he wanted to make the event an annual affair.

“The players wanted to play again. They just think it’s one day that’s a lot of fun, and let’s get out there. It’s a good cause,” said Roger, event organizer.

Kickoff is set for July 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Caledonia Park.

Last year’s event raised the money needed to renovate the Nanaimo Train Station. The project had been important to Roger’s son Blair, who died last spring. This year, funds will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island, the Young Professionals of Nanaimo and other causes.
