The Nanaimo Clippers showcased themselves as a first-place team at the BCHL Showcase this week.
The Clippers won both their games at the B.C. Hockey League event in Chilliwack, defeating the Cranbrook Bucks by a 4-2 score Tuesday and then taking it to the Trail Smoke Eaters by a 7-3 tally on Wednesday.
In the first game, Nanaimo won despite being outshot 37-35 as Shane Shelest stopped 35 shots for the win. Kai Daniells scored a pair of goals and Brody Waters and Jake Hewitt also lit the lamp.
The next day, Waters and Hewitt scored two goals each and Daniells, Jérémie Payant and Joel Plante were the other scorers. Aidan Campbell only needed to make 19 saves to earn the win in goal.
Daniells’s scoring exploits lifted him into a tie for the league lead as he and Jackson Krill of the Merritt Centennials both have eight goals in their first nine games.
Nanaimo is in first place in the Coastal Conference with an 8-1 record.
GAME ON … The Clippers host the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena, then visit the Cowichan Valley Capitals the next night in Duncan.
