Drillers, Blasters play for first championship

NANAIMO – The Coal Miners Baseball League will hold its championship game Thursday (Sept. 10) at Serauxmen Stadium.

One team will win a trophy and the distinction of being the first-ever champion of the Coal Miners Baseball League.

The Drillers and the Blasters will play for the title Thursday (Sept. 10) in the championship game of the men’s recreational baseball league. Bragging rights will be on the line, said league president Jereme MacKinnon.

“Oh, you bet,” he said. “It’s going to be fun. And we’ve gone and gotten ourselves a really good trophy cup that we can use every year going forward.”

Game time is 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Serauxmen Stadium.

The final doesn’t mean the end of baseball season – the Coal Miners Fall Classic tournament goes this weekend (Sept. 11-13) at the stadium and Mariner Field. The first game is Friday at 5 p.m. at the stadium between the Blasters and the Nanaimo Pirates and the final is Sunday at 1 p.m.
