The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen climbed up among the league leaders after an encouraging road win on Sunday.

The city’s West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association squad (6-3) defeated the Royal City Capitals 10-8 in New Westminster.

“The guys worked really hard, played really well defensively and offensively we’re getting better,” said Roger Dubyna, coach of the senior B T-men. “Guys are starting to move the ball, set picks better and take way better quality shots.”

Nanaimo brought only 12 runners over on the ferry.

"We've got a good team," said the coach. “If we ever could get the whole group together it would be interesting to see what we could do."

Aaron Vanderhorst led the offence with a hat trick, while new addition George Westwood was impressive with two goals and three helpers. Jordan Jarvis had two goals, Myles Jeffers and Shane Chalker each had a goal and two assists and Ryan Dietterle was Nanaimo’s other scorer. Danny Walters made 35 saves for the win.

GAME ON … The DBL T-men play the North Shore Indians on the road Friday (June 24), then host the Tri-City Bandits on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
