The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen expect to be in the upper echelon of senior B teams, but they recognize it will take some work to get to that point.
The journey starts this Sunday (May 1) with a home game against the North Shore Indians at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
The Indians are consistently unpredictable as to what kind of team they’ll put on the floor from year to year.
As for some of the other teams, fans can expect the usual suspects to be in the mix.
Teams like the defending-champion Tri-City Bandits, the Ladner Pioneers, the Royal City Capitals and the Valley Rebels are expected to be some of the other top teams.
With the President’s Cup national tournament in B.C. last year, some of the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association teams loaded up their rosters to try to win. But even though the President’s Cup will be contested out east this summer, it doesn’t necessarily mean the road to get there is any easier.
“The Mann Cup is here this year, so those senior A teams on the mainland, if they bring in guys, will end up cutting guys that are good players that will then go to play B,” said Roger Dubyna, T-men coach. “So they’ll still be good.”
