DBL T-men lose strange one

The score was 3-2, just like the Canucks game the night before, pointed out DBL Timbermen coach Roger Dubyna.

The problem is, his team plays lacrosse, where two or three goals doesn’t usually get it done. It wasn’t enough Sunday as the senior B team was defeated by the Valley Rebels in Parksville.

“It was basically your tight defensive battle; both goalies played really well,” said Dubyna.

He was pleased with his team’s defensive effort. The T-men made adjustments in the first period to limit the Rebels’ transition game, and the defensive corps showed good cohesion the rest of the way.

Despite scoring only two goals, the Timbermen offence did some things well, generating 36 shots.

“We had a number of quality chances,” said Dubyna. “Their goalie played well, I’ll just attribute it to that. I’m not going to pick on our shooters yet.”

Mike Maughan and Dane Smith scored for the T-men and Danny Walters made 30 saves in defeat.

GAME ON … The DBL men (3-3) play at Chilliwack (1-7) on Saturday (June 11), and tentatively host Valley (7-0) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. That one was supposed to be played at Abbotsford on Friday, but the Rebels asked to reschedule so as not to conflict with a possible Stanley Cup final game.
