The boys of summer are back.

The Nanaimo Coal Miners senior men’s baseball team hosts its home-opening weekend this Saturday (June 22) and Sunday at Serauxmen Stadium.

The Coal Miners began their season in May with a runner-up finish at a Victoria tournament and have continued to play road games since then.

There are a couple of new pitching arms this year as Steve McKinnon, a major-league draft pick, and Bryan Pawlina of the UBC Thunderbirds have joined the staff. Many other Coal Miners veterans are back.

“It’s the main core group of guys that we’ve had for the past few years and we’ve come pretty close to winning the B.C.’s with that core so we should be good,” said Jeff Vickers, Coal Miners vet.
