Clips will go hard to the net

The Nanaimo Clippers visit the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday (Oct. 11) and then host the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday.

The Nanaimo Clippers are going to need to score some goals this weekend, and they know where to get them – right around the net.

The city’s B.C. Hockey League team has back-to-back Island Division matchups this weekend, visiting the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday (Oct. 11) and then hosting the Cowichan Valley Capitals the next night.

Clippers coach Mike Vandekamp said he’d like to see his players make things tough on opponents by going to the net harder.

“We’re not real hungry around the net yet. We don’t shoot enough, either,” he said. “I think simplifying the offence and getting more pucks and more bodies to the net is probably a real key thing for us right now.

“It makes you harder to play against, too. It’s very hard to defend against when you play that type of game.”

GAME ON … The Clips and Grizz play Friday at 7:15 p.m. at Bear Mountain Arena. Saturday’s game against the Caps is at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. For ticket info, visit www.nanaimoclippers.com.
