The Nanaimo Clippers remain perfect in the post-season and more importantly, lead their second-round playoff series two games to none.
The Clippers won Game 1 and Game 2 in the Fraser Valley this past weekend, defeating the Chilliwack Chiefs by a 2-1 score on Friday and then winning 6-3 the next night.
In the first game, Sean Donaldson and Brody Waters scored goals and goaltender Cooper Black was first star with a 33-save performance as his team was outshot 34-20.
On Saturday night, Donaldson scored a hat trick and Jérémie Payant, Jake Hewitt and Waters were the other scorers. The game was closer than the score suggested, as it was knotted 3-3 going into the third period.
“After Nanaimo had a disallowed goal early in the third, they kept pressing and Donaldson eventually scored his hat-trick goal, circling around the offensive zone and beating Chiefs goalie Grant Riley with a wrist shot,” noted a game report on the BCHL website. Nanaimo tallied two empty-netters to ice the win and Black made 35 saves as his team was outshot 28-23.
