The Barsby Bulldogs made sure there was no let-up in their final regular-season game.
John Barsby Community Secondary School’s AA varsity football team shut out the Argyle Pipers 61-0 on Friday at Merle Logan Field.
“We played like we’re ready for playoffs,” said Jacob Odynsky, Barsby wingback. “We scored every possession on offence and they had no points.”
Coach Rob Stevenson called it a clean football game, with not a lot of mental errors. Since the ‘Dawgs had already clinched their playoff berth going into Friday’s finale, they were able to adjust their roster accordingly.
“We really shuffled the deck today, got a lot of playing time for a lot of guys that have earned it and rested some banged-up fellows,” Stevenson said.
Odynsky had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving TD and Duc Truong had one touchdown along the ground and one TD catch. Shawn Arabsky had an 86-yard kickoff return TD, Joseph Smith returned an interception for a TD and other Bulldogs who scored majors were Justin Cook and Tyler Harvey.
Smith had a team-high six tackles plus a fumble recovery to go with his pick six. Shota Higuchi came up with two interceptions and Cook and Arabsky also had INTs.
Quarterbacks Brody Taylor and Austin Lyle each threw one touchdown pass; Taylor was 8-for-11 for 125 yards.
“We played really well offensively, defensively and special teams,” said Truong. “A lot of players stepped up and made plays.”
