The Nanaimo Buccaneers had a sweet result on the road on Valentine’s Day.

The Bucs won a make-up game up Island on Tuesday, defeating the Campbell River Storm by a 5-2 score.

Nanaimo was outshot 43-26 in the contest but got a 41-save performance from goalie John Hawthorne and goals from Jacob Carr, Cole Broadhurst, Billy Walters, Jayden Schubert and Dawson Heathcote.

Tuesday’s game was necessary after weather forced the postponement of some recent Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League matchups.

In other team news, members of the Buccaneers have been selected as VIJHL award winners for 2016-17 and those individuals will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony this Thursday (Feb. 16) at 7:15 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre before the Bucs take the ice against the Oceanside Generals.

The Buccaneers then visit the Saanich Braves on Friday and host the Storm on Monday at 7 p.m. at the NIC in another make-up game.
