The Nanaimo Buccaneers, coming off an encouraging win, will try to raise their game another level.

The Bucs take on the North Division-leading Campbell River Storm on Thursday (Oct. 6) in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action.

Nanaimo won its most recent game against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings by a 6-1 count.

“Now the team knows what we need to do to be able to have success in the league and hopefully that translates to a good start against Campbell River,” said Dan Lemmon, Bucs coach.

He noted that the Storm play a different sort of forechecking system that his Bucs will need to keep in mind.

“The game planning is a little bit different with Campbell River, but some of the principles like getting pucks in deep, getting pucks out of our zone, having a good start, playing a full 60, all of those things are relevant,” Lemmon said.

GAME ON … The Bucs and Storm face off Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The teams play a rematch Friday up Island.
