Buccaneers blow out Generals

The Nanaimo Buccaneers won 8-2 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The Nanaimo Buccaneers scored in bunches and beat the Oceanside Generals last night.

The Bucs won 8-2 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The game started strangely, with the home team scoring twice in the first two minutes, and the visitors answering back with two goals in two minutes, for a 2-2 tie before the game was even five minutes old.

In the second and third periods, though, the Bucs continued the barrage and scored three short-handed goals en route to the blowout win.

Hobin Zinck scored a hat trick to lead Nanaimo, Jordan Levesque and Trent Bell had a goal and two assists each and other scorers were Carter Turnbull, Will McNamara and Jared Fedosoff. Greg Maggio made 27 saves for the win.

GAME ON … The Bucs visit the first-place Campbell River Storm tonight (Nov. 14). Next home action is Thursday (Nov. 20) when the Westshore Wolves stop by the NIC for a 7:15 p.m. faceoff.
