The Nanaimo Buccaneers couldn't come close to keeping up with the best teams in the league.
The city's Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League team lost 11-3 to the Campbell River Storm on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, then got shut out 3-0 by the Victoria Cougars on Sunday on the road.
In Thursday's game, Bucs goalie Ryan Waldhaus got hurt and backup Michael Herringer, who was sick, was forced into action. New addition Garrett Brandsma was a bright spot for the Bucs, scoring two goals, and David Osborne had one. Garrett Dunlop had two assists. Shots were 31-28 for the Storm.
On Sunday, new goaltender Jackson Jane faced the Cougars and made 31 saves in defeat. Shots were 34-13 for the home team.
GAME ON … The Buccaneers play the Comox Valley Glacier Kings this Thursday (Jan. 16) at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC, then visit the Storm on Friday.
