A Nanaimo boxer continues to punch his way up the ranks.
Dan Baxter was a winner at the B.C. Silver Gloves on Saturday in Victoria, defeating a fighter from that city by majority decision.
“His opponent was a tough guy. It was a good, tough fight,” said Don Arnott, Baxter’s trainer at Tomari Martial Arts.
Arnott said the Victoria fighter won the first round of the four-round fight, then Baxter won the next two, but by a slim margin. The trainer told Baxter the fight was so close it could go either way and that he had to win the final round.
“I said, ‘you’ve got to stay on his outside and you’ve got to just dominate on him.’ I said, ‘you’ve got to really turn it up a few notches’ and he did, and it was really good to see that.”
Baxter won his bout at the B.C. Bronze Gloves earlier this month in Richmond to qualify for the Silver Gloves, and now he advances to the B.C. Golden Gloves back in Richmond on Dec. 3.
