The Nanaimo BMX Association is anticipating its busiest and best weekend of the year.

The Marie Davidson BMX Park at Beban Park will be hopping all weekend with special events at the same time that the Vancouver Island Exhibition is drawing crowds at the adjacent fairgrounds.

The club is hosting its annual Race for Life charity event on Friday (Aug. 19). The fundraiser for B.C. Children’s Hospital is an opportunity for anyone on two wheels to try out racing on the track for a $10 donation. Cost for club members to participate is $20. Registration goes from 6-7 p.m. At 7:15 p.m. there will be a ceremony unveiling a new sign dedicating the track as the Marie Davidson BMX Park.

The next afternoon  there will be a double-points race following 3-4 p.m. registration.

Then on Sunday (Aug. 21) triple points are on the line as Nanaimo hosts the American Bicycle Association’s B.C. Provincial Race Series championship. Racing will get underway following registration from 8-9 a.m.
