The level of competition was a step up this past weekend as the Nanaimo BMX Association hosted one of its major races of 2016.

The Marie Davidson BMX Park was the first stop on the Sea Soil Vancouver Island Championship Series on Sunday.

The series consists of five races, with the other stops to be held in Cumberland, Victoria, Qualicum Beach and then Victoria again for the series finale. Racers collect points along the way in hopes of becoming Island champion in their respective divisions.

In other Nanaimo BMX news, SuperCamp, led by instructor Burlin (Bubba) Harris, will be held from May 13-15. The camp is for all ages and levels of riders and costs $75 per day or $200 for all three days. For more information, please visit www.nanaimobmx.com.
