Barrel racing highlights horse show

The Nanaimo Quarter Horse Association is holding two days of events Saturday (June 16) and Sunday at Beban Park.

Horse lovers and other sports fans can partake in an equestrian exhibition this weekend.

The Nanaimo Quarter Horse Association is holding two days of activities Saturday (June 16) and Sunday at Beban Park’s Vancouver Island Exhibition grounds. Events get underway at 8 a.m. both days.

The association is inviting the public to watch horses and their riders compete in halter, English, western and reining divisions. The main event of the weekend is tonight’s $1,000 jackpot barrel racing. The barrel racing warmups will start around 6 p.m., with the timed races to follow an hour later.

“Come down and see the diverse talents of the quarter horse and the enjoy the beautiful saddlery and costumes that go along with it,” said Kelly Frech of the association in a press release.
