Bantam AAA championships step up to bat

The Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association is hosting the B.C. Baseball bantam AAA provincial championships Thursday through Sunday (Aug. 4-7).

B.C.’s best baseball bantams will fill Nanaimo’s ballparks this week.

The Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association is hosting the B.C. Baseball bantam AAA provincial championships Thursday through Sunday (Aug. 4-7) at Serauxmen Stadium and Mariner Field.

The 10-team tournament will involve more than 40 games and bring close to 200 players to town, as well as family members and coaches.

The tournament gets underway Thursday at 10 a.m., but the feature game isn’t until 4:15 p.m. that day, when Nanaimo takes on Cowichan. The tournament’s opening ceremonies will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Nanaimo will play Delta on Friday at 2:45 p.m., Vancouver Community on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. and Burnaby on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

The tiebreaker games will be Saturday at 6 p.m. with the semifinals Sunday at 10 a.m. and the finals Sunday at 2 p.m.
