Acme Timbermen face off in playoffs

The Nanaimo Acme Timbermen start the post-season Wednesday (July 17) when they hoss the Royal City Capitals (3-8-0-3) in Game 1.

The Nanaimo Acme Timbermen go into the playoffs as one of the favourites, so now it’s time to start proving themselves.

The city’s senior B lacrosse team (11-3) starts the post-season Wednesday (July 17) when it hosts the Royal City Capitals (3-8-0-3) in Game 1 of a best-of-three first-round series.

The T-men finished tied with the Ladner Pioneers in the standings, but the bad guys got the No. 1 seed on goal differential.

Nanaimo ended off the regular season with a pair of road wins, doubling up the Valley Rebels 12-6 on Friday in Abbotsford and then edging the Port Moody Thunder 7-6 the next night.

In Friday’s victory, the T-men outscored the Rebels 5-0 in the third period to turn a close game into a blowout. Blair Pinnock had three goals, Jon Diplock had two goals and four assists, Rick Fields had two and two and Josh Fagan scored twice. Danny Walters was the winning goalie, making 38 saves.

The next night, Pinnock scored a pair and Nick Patterson was the winning goalie with 34 saves.

GAME ON … Wednesday’s game is at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. Game 2 is Saturday in New Westminster and Game 3, if necessary, would be Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Frank.
