Wartime artist’s work graces Bulletin cover

NANAIMO: Artists one of three who painted murals at downtown's Malaspina Hotel.

To the Editor,

Thank you for the Remembrance Day supplement in the Nov. 6 issue of the News Bulletin.

As a footnote for local interest, Orville Fisher, the painter of D-Day – The Assault featured on the cover page, collaboratively painted the Malaspina Hotel murals in Nanaimo along with Paul Goranson and E. J.  Hughes. The trio signed their works as The Westcoast Brotherhood.

All three painters later individually served as official Canadian wartime artists; depictions by Goranson and Hughes are also part of the Beaverbrook Collection of War Art displayed at the Canadian War Museum.
