Walkway bylaw needs enforcing

NANAIMO: People are biking, skateboarding and in-line skating on the waterfront walkway.

To the Editor,

Middle-aged people and young children are biking, skateboarding and in-line skating on the waterfront walkway, even where the shops are.

Overhearing one middle-aged mother telling her children that the ban on this was “stupid”, and more or less encouraging her children to continue riding (three abreast) was disturbing.

Especially as the children seemed  intelligent and quite willing and understanding of the importance of not riding their bikes there.

Obviously, the only people who encourage this and continue to do it are the stupid ones.

However, it is suggested that more  prohibited signs are displayed  and acutal fines are issued. As said, middle-aged people seem to be the big offenders, so one feels they can afford to fork out the cash.

Otherwise someone will be injured and the City of Nanaimo (taxpayers) will be the ones being sued.
