Vote splitting impacted election

Twenty-eight seats the NDP won in Alberta were won by vote splitting between the Conservatives and the Wildrose Party.

To the Editor,

Recent comments about the NDP win in Alberta were made without ever doing an analysis of the election results. The NDP won only 25 seats on their name alone. This was no orange crush. The other 28 seats the NDP won were won by vote splitting between the Conservatives and the Wildrose Party. One has to wonder which party would the votes have gone to if there was no Wildrose party in the election. Remember, all Wildrose candidates were disgruntled Conservatives. News headlines about the NDP win should have read, ‘NDP wins in Alberta because of vote splitting.’
