Use of fossil fuel certain for years

NANAIMO – Re: LNG project a ‘political ruse’, Letters, June 8.

To the Editor,

Re: LNG project a ‘political ruse’, Letters, June 8.

Alan MacKinnon sounds like another disgruntled NDP supporter with extremely dire prognostications for B.C.

Asian customers growing their industrial base will require fuel for their factories for years to come.

While greener renewable energy is the long-term goal of all progressive countries, in the immediate future – probably 20 to 50 years – we will continue to use fossil fuels.

B.C.’s misguided thinking that we will make a significant difference in greenhouse gas emissions is ludicrous.

We represent less than 0.1 per cent of the world’s population. If we were to stop GHG emissions entirely, we could not change the process already in place.

MacKinnon needs to stop trying to make himself feel good and try and see all the benefits the liquefied natural gas projects will have.
