Use derelict building for housing project

To the Editor,

Re: City annex answers still leave questions, Letters, May 17

If city council is worried about losing the money already allocated for projects like housing the homeless, and it seems that’s really all they care about, why not refurbish an existing derelict building, much like the work that was done on the old Balmoral Hotel?

Might I suggest the abandoned A&B Sound building downtown for your consideration. Finish off the second floor and you’d have a decent-sized building to work with and a decent-sized parking lot to go along with it.

What’s that I hear? Too close to the convention centre and new cruise ship terminal? But council has already said it expects no problems with low-barrier housing.

In the back of their minds are they thinking that the people housed there are possibly dangerous and a detriment to the area?
