University contract offers no stability

Re: University, profs agree to terms, May 26.

To the Editor,

Re: University, profs agree to terms, May 26.

If the two-year deal which ends the threat of strike expires next March, why would any student take the risk of enrolling at Vancouver Island University in September when his time, money and effort might again be threatened with loss by another strike next March?

VIU seems a dark place indeed when the mediator Mark Brown states that “the parties were so polarized in their positions that an agreement was not possible on the outstanding issues.”

There must be a better foundation for continuity in “supporting students, delivering services and engaging with the community.”

Something is missing and maybe next September it might be the students.
