Together, men and women can make city better

City managerial staff, like our city council, should be balanced with knowledgeable women and men.

To the Editor,

Re: Women must demonstrate leadership, Letters, Oct. 7.

The letter writer accuses our two current women councillors of abdicating their responsibilities by simply deferring difficult decisions to either city staff or β€œthe men in the room.” On the contrary, both women are very much in tune with the pulse of our city and are, and have been extremely thoughtful in their decisions and manner of voting. They have not made any more referrals to city staff than any other council members.

I do however concur that city managerial staff, like our city council, should be balanced with knowledgeable women and men – so perhaps, in the future, whoever hires managerial staff could be more mindful of this.

We are all connected – together, men and women can do great work.
