Taxpayers getting empty facilities

To the Editor,

Re: City trips on floor decision, Opinion, May 24.

Great editorial.

We can’t be going dancing in Nanaimo anymore. But we do have an empty Vancouver Island Conference Centre at over $1 million and rising to keep it operating (not to mention paying a giant mortgage).

We do have the Port Theatre at a loss of half million dollars a year to operate. We will have a $16-million new annex.

The Economic Development Commission is a renamed bad joke on taxpayers at another half million dollar-a-year handout.

They should pay the $15,000 for the hardwood floor or just what are they for? Downtown cronies only? All other Nanaimo business people pay their own bills outside of the downtown. They should be protesting.
