Simulated disaster too real for Alberta

Western Canada Spill Services recently conducted a mandatory ‘mock oil spill training’ for all area oil companies.

To the Editor,

Western Canada Spill Services recently conducted a mandatory ‘mock oil spill training’ for all area oil companies on the Beatton River, near Fort St. John, B.C.

The company initially intended to use red-dyed canola oil to simulate the oil, but had to change to colourful plastic balls because Alberta complained about the canola floating down the Beatton into Alberta.

This, from the same province and industry that is growing one of the greatest environmental disasters of all time and is trying to sell us on the Northern Gateway pipeline which would carry the real stuff and that is almost certain to have a spill at some point – likely sooner rather than later, given the dangerous route.

How stupid must they think we are?
