Semantics aside, police perform valuable social work

The letter writer’s lack of recognition to the value police officers contribute to social work in our community is disturbing.

To the Editor,

Re: Cops’ compassion isn’t social work, Letters, May 6.

The letter writer’s lack of recognition to the value police officers contribute to social work in our community is disturbing.

To begin with, as long as you care and are involved you are a social worker. Dogma is worthless without a heart, the wisdom of living or the resolve to act as those you deal with are capable of seeing through it.

I get the feeling the social worker thinks she could put on badge along with her indoctrinated associates and go out and do a much better job than the ordinary unenlightened policeman. I don’t think so.
