To the Editor,

Driving up a north-end hill, a senior in a four-wheeled scooter who was on the road to my right proceeded to quickly cut in front of my vehicle at the stop sign to cross on the pedestrian crosswalk.

No helmet seems to be required, hand signals are not used and flashers  are often at a difficult angle to see. These neutral-coloured rigs (aside from the optional little red flag) are almost invisible on a cloudy day and many drivers seem oblivious to the flow of traffic around them.

While I think that is wonderful that folks are able to get around independently, could someone please provide the official word regarding these four-wheelers and liability?

Are they categorized as road vehicles, with B.C. road rules and licensing, or as pedestrian aides (similar to a motorized wheelchair)?

Unfortunately, many are an accident waiting to happen.
