Re: City seeks feedback on Rutherford Road intersection, June 9.
The drawings by the engineering department are quite nice, but I wonder if they took into account the location. It is at the top of a steep hill where you have very little forward view when you come over the crest of the hill. I predict there will be many accidents at this intersection, especially during the winter when we have snow and ice at the top of Rutherford Road.
They call this a neighbourhood access, did they take into account how many heavy trucks and equipment will use this access? Did they do a traffic count at Rutherford? How many homes will eventually be in the Linley Point subdivision? Did the engineering department get any input from the police as to the advisability of putting these lights or traffic circle at the intersection?
It seems to me that the best option would be to form an intersection where the current trail enters Rutherford Road, or at the bottom of Rutherford hill at Oliver Road. Why haven’t these locations been given as an option?
It makes me wonder where the city planning department was when the approval was given for this subdivision design. Sufficient access roads should always be required prior to approval of the subdivision and put in at the developers’ expense.
