To the Editor,
There has been some recent celebration that women are outnumbering their male counterparts in universities, even up to three to one as in the University of Victoria.
I don’t see the reason to celebrate, though, because I think there is too much emphasis on attracting young men into the oil, mining, construction, and gas industries, which equates to a brain drain for the short-term prospects of resource exploitation.
We should balance out this deficit and stop obsessing on a phantom oncoming trade shortage and just encourage young men to be the leaders and innovators of the future like they have always been.
