Pool closure criteria hasn’t been explained

I am a city taxpayer concerned about the city council’s lack of vision in closing the Beban Pool for a three-month period.

To the Editor,

Re: Beban Pool meets community’s needs, Letters, June 23.

I am a city taxpayer concerned about the city council’s lack of vision in closing the Beban Pool for a three-month period. This decision, in my opinion, demonstrates they have not even considered that the city is growing and will continue to grow. Was this growth considered?

I am sure you would agree with me that the city has an obligation to provide a variety of recreational services for the City of Nanaimo. Yet in a time when the population is expanding, they are making cuts to the services they provide.

I went on the city’s website and discovered they do not say what their measurable goals are for the recreational facilities, such as Beban Pool. So no long-term measurable stated goals means that you do not have any criteria for making decisions. Bad decisions are made when there are no measurable goals. You have got to wonder what the criteria were to place Beban Pool on the list of potential cuts.
