To the Editor,
Re: It’s no joke, ferry fares just skyrocketed, April 2.
Highway 1 is part of our transcontinental route from coast-to-coast.
When I moved here from Ontario there were no toll booths anywhere across the country. Such is the privilege we enjoy of travelling across Canada at the taxpayers’ expense.
So why don’t ‘we’ taxpayers also fund ferry crossings. Is this not still part of Highway 1?
How about a nominal charge of $5 for cars and $10 for commercial vehicles and $2 for walk ons? Would this not help keep the cost of goods and services down (especially food prices which seems to have soared), for us Island folk?
