No demand for rail service

The money that the RDN wastes annually flogging this dead horse is a crime. There is no demand for the rail service.

To the Editor,

Re: Frustration mounts over delays to restart rail service, July 30.

Once again the Regional District of Nanaimo is showing how it has a one-track mind (no pun intended) for the Island rail corridor. The money that the RDN wastes annually flogging this dead horse is a crime. There is no demand for the rail service.

This property could be developed as a major bike/scooter/pedestrian trail to connect the various communities on it for far less cost and maintenance in the future than the rail line. In addition, there could be spinoffs such as the railway station in Nanaimo, where travellers could stop for a meal or a drink break.

I am glad there is a deadline for the future use of this land.
