Re: Several hundred ‘hidden homeless’ surf city couches, Aug. 9.
Perhaps one of the contributing causes of homelessness/couch surfers is that there is very little work available in Nanaimo. Also, most big companies now hire staff on a part-time basis only at low pay.
I don’t know if there’s a solution to this, but it certainly impacts many people in our community.
I also don’t know if these companies hire only part-time staff at low wages because they can’t afford to do otherwise, or whether they are very profit driven and don’t care about their staff. I hope it isn’t the latter.
