To the editor,

Re: New city agency will co-ordinate work to combat homelessness, May 13.

Well, still yet another in the very long line of the usual bureaucratic data-collecting on people experiencing homelessness – something that should have been solved by now.

But as all are familiar with, the City of Nanaimo is playing the usual propaganda line of show and tell to give the Nanaimo taxpayers the impression that the city is working hard to solve the problem by coming up with this Nanaimo systems planning organization with a too-generous budget of $480,000 per year for five years, which the Nanaimo taxpayers are paying for.

In reality, it’s a high priority, but it’s a show-boat project, making for a most excellent PR campaign for Nanaimo. But what about the people who are homeless?

The city should ensure the tax dollars are being spent properly and accounted for and make sure tax dollars are not wasted on these must-have projects.
