The news in the March 5 edition seems upside down. The City of Nanaimo tightens home business regulations for the first time in 20 years and, no doubt, to the good. The renowned non-profit food bank program for Nanaimo just keeps getting better.
Meanwhile, senior housing and care firm Retirement Concepts walks off scot-free from what B.C.’s Seniors’ Advocate calls “consistent and persistent non-compliance” with operating regulations. As your article points out, non-profit senior cares surpass direct-care targets by 80,000 hours. For-profit senior care firms fail to deliver 207,000 direct-care hours
The twisted irony is that ‘professional’ senior care services are still not penalized in any way for making out like bandits on the backs of seniors in care. And are they likely to care what our regulators do? Consider this: the Retirement Concepts care homes are owned by one of the many arms of the Chinese government.
